Susukino Yell White Ale : Background

Susukino Yell White Ale is a 5% wit beer from Susukino Brewing, based in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It’s part of their regular lineup and can be found in both cans and on draught. It was the first of their beers to be made after their successful crowdfunding campaign, and like with other beers from the brewery, Susukino Yell White Ale uses locally grown barley in the making of it and this beer also contains locally sourced honey from Sapporo./

Susukino Yell White Ale : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste

Susukino Yell White Ale poured out a slight dull straw colour with a medium layer of white head on top that faded fast with the small bubbles popping quickly. Unfortunately, there were no legs to the head, and nothing remained during drinking.

The aroma from the beer was peculiar – slightly musty with a touch of sweetness; though whether it was from the honey or the malts was hard to determine. In terms of matching to style, I can’t say it was a good representation asthe beer really lacked much of anything really outside of the musty sweetness.

The same can be said about the body to this beer – it lacked substance in bitterness, sweetness, just general overall taste really. This wasn’t a drain pour by any means – it didn’t taste distinctly off, but there was nothing that drew me in with this beer.

Susukino Yell White Ale : The Bottom Line

It’s a sad thing to say when the design of the can is better than the beer itself.
