Yellow Monkey Godzone Beat : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste

Yellow Monkey Godzone Beat poured out a clear golden colour with just a meagre amount of white head on top, though it didn’t last long.

I really don’t know what makes a NZ pale ale, a pale ale and not an IPA, but I do know that Yellow Monkey Godzone Beat smelt fantastic. Lots of passion fruit and pineapple came though in the nose from the start, with barely a whiff of malt sweetness present. The hops that took a hard turn to the left with some citrus notes permeating through, along the lines of grapefruit and lemon.

As in the nose, there wasn’t any discerinble malt profile to the beer, as it was all hops. The bitterness was lower than expected after smelling the beer, but there was just an initial punch of bitterness. The hops brought lashings of tropical and citrus notes, with passion fruit and pineapple from the former, and grapefruit and lemon in the latter. If anything, the body was on the dry and light side, though at 6.5%, it was also easy drinking and ended up being drunk very quickly.

Yellow Monkey Godzone Beat : The Bottom Line

On the edge of an IPA and an extra pale ale, Yellow Monkey Godzone Beat is still a very good beer to try.
