West Coast Thiol Injection is an 8.5% hazy double IPA from West Coast Brewing, based in Mochimune, Shizuoka. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availaiblity is unknown at the time of writing. West Coast Thiol Injection is brewed with Citra Cryo, Mosaic Cryo, and Motueka hops, and as the name suggests, it utilises Thiol which are highly aroma-active compounds derived from hops that can give very intense fruity flavor to predominantly dry-hopped beers.

West Coast Thiol Injection : Appearance
Vibrant golden hazy colour with a plump white head on top that left sticky white lacing down the side of the glass. The haze was clean all the way through, with no discernible sediment floating around.
West Coast Thiol Injection : Aroma
Talk about fruity and a half – it really seemed that with this beer, West Coast Brewing had jammed in a whole bunch of tropical fruit into a beer, and blended it all up. Mango, pineapple, guava, and passion fruit came screaming through at the beginning, with some citrus notes of lemon and oranges to balance it all out. As it warmed up, there was a touch of dankness in the back end with some malt sweetness.

Powerful punch of bitterness to start, which was swiftly followed up with the citrus and tropical notes to replace the bitterness. Like in the nose, lots of mango and pineapple coming through first, which were followed alongside with guava and passion fruit to soften things up. The citrus notes of lemon and orange were nice and combined with the medium bodied malt sweetness, really made me think I was drink a mixed fruit juice.

This is a stunning beer and one that begs to be drunk fresh.
