Inkhorn Brewing : Background
Inkhorn Brewing is a brewpub located in the Toshima area of Tokyo, with Mejiro station on the Yamanote line, and Zoshigaya on the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line being the closest stations. Headbrewer, Nakade-san, started out brewing in Japan in 2018 at Pitman’s in Kiyosumi, Tokyo, before moving on and opening Inkhorn Brewing in January 2021 – not the best time to open a brewpub but since then, they have gone on to become one of Tokyo’s most sought out breweries.
The brewery name, “Inkhorn Brewing”, comes from the old horns that were used in the middle ages as ink wells – long before biros or ink filled fountain pens were in common use. Many of the designs for the beers, both labels on Instagram and on cans, take the form of birds, with Amy Holdsworth, Nakade san’s and also co-founder of Inkhorn Brewing, being the reason for these designs, as she is a bird lover.
