Daisen G Rice De Weiss is a 5% rice weizen from Kumezakura Shuzo, based in Tottori, Japan. It’s part of their seasonal lineup, though its availability at the time of writing is unknown. As the name suggests, Daisen G Rice De Weiss uses sake rice known as “Yamada Nishiki” which is cultivated in the Yasato area at the foot of Mount Daisen.

Daisen G Rice De WeissDaisen G Rice De Weiss Aroma and Taste

Daisen G Rice De Weiss poured out a relatively clear golden colour with a thin amount of white head on top that faded quickly to leave a few bubbles around the side of the glass. The aroma was a peculiar one – there was a hint of sake-like nose to the beer, and a faint phenolic banana aroma, but nothing as potent as normally found in weizens.

The body was dry and crisp, with a similar flavour profile to the nose – a sake-light flavour along with a faint banana phenolic flavour to the beer. It wasn’t a bad beer by any means, but the flavours were a little one-dimensional and lacked any real staying power, with them fading fast from the palate.

Daisen G Rice De Weiss The Bottom Line

Daisen G Rice De Weiss isn’t bad, it’s just bland.
