Hosokawa Brewery, like many others that came out at the time, is originally a sake brewery that later opened up a beer brewery in the form of Ageuma Beer. The sake brewery started out in 1850, while the range of Ageuma Beer’s first came on sale in August 1997. All of the beers produced in the Ageuma Beer range have been certified as organic as they all use imported malts and hops from Germany. The reason the brewery is called Ageuma Beer is that at the local Ageuma Shrine, there is an annual horseback festival held in on the first weekend of May. The beginning of this festival can be traced back to between 1338 to 1342 of the North-Southern era.
