Craft Beer Base Bud The Bottom Line
Craft Beer Base Bud should be on your list of places to drink in when you’re in Osaka – as long as you can navigate going underground among Osaka’s labyrinthine passages that seem to go everywhere in a loop. The friendly and chilled atmosphere helps out and the bar staff really know their beers. All the prices include tax, the whole bar is non-smoking but then so is the building itself, and there is no table charge either so drink away. On top of that, there is also free WiFi so you can leave some comments on BeerTengoku as you drink there. Even better news is that there is a happy hour too
Craft Beer Base Bud The Full Review
Craft Beer Base Bud is the second bar in the Craft Beer Base chain in Osaka, with the bottle shop / bar being the first, and also Craft Beer Base Garden which opened up in 2017. The bar came highly recommended from a friend who used to work there and opened up his own bar – thanks Kaz! – which also got visited later on.
Craft Beer Base Bud is located inbetween three stations – Nishi Umeda, Higashi Umeda, and also Kitashinchi station as well – but then the bar is found in the second basement floor of the Osaka Ekimae First Building. Does that sound confusing? It should be as trying to find Craft Beer Base Bud without a map or directions was not fun. It’s very much in the style of a dive bar and looked perhaps the most run down of all the bars I went to in Osaka but then that is part of the charm. Craft Beer Base Bud seats about 10 people at the bar, with space for another 20 people dotted around the various tables next to the walls. The whole bar is non-smoking and there is also no table charge either.
There are eight rotating taps of craft beer at Craft Beer Base Bud with a split between domestic beers and also imports, mainly from the US. Beers come in two sizes with half-pint at 240ml for ¥700 and pints at 470ml for ¥1000 for domestic beers and ¥1200 for imports. All the prices include tax as well. Moreover, there is a happy hour that gets you ¥100 off the price of a pint from 4pm to 6pm on weekdays, and they also offer up beer flights as well.
The food at Craft Beer Base Bud is very much like other dive bars we’ve been to – cooked in front of you and consists of simple fried food as well as some salads and pasta. Nothing exciting but the curry chips were good and filling. The portion sizes were surprisingly large for the price you pay and while the menu was in Japanese only, there was some English explanation offered by the staff.

Yes!
This is the one craft beer bar in Osaka to which I got that you have reviewed. I have a pin-back button from here.
That it is difficult to find is correct. I circled the building once before realizing this must be it – I’m just not looking deep enough.
You missed a celebration at another Osaka craft beer bar. But this was one I caught. It was on the Sunday after Japan Do #4. It was its 1st anniversary {I believe}.
It is a very good bar. I’m glad you agree.
Thanks for the comment – this was a nice little though it was, as you say, hard to find unless you know you have to go underground.
Wish I had time to go to their new bar, Craft Beer Base Garden but unfortunately ran out of time. Hopefully with the Patreon we can fund some interviews as well down that way too.
