Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale, also known as Hitachino Nest Commemorative Ale, is an 8% Belgian Strong Ale that incorporates a very complex brewing method. Along with five different malts (yes, five!), four different hops, and several different spices such as coriander, nutmeg and other traditional end of year spices, it really has a lot going on it.

Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale Aroma and Taste

Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale pours a deep hazy red colour from the bottle with a thin head that appears to be a dark brown colour that dissipates into a thin ring around the edge very quickly. Even though I had a slight cold when I drank this beer, the aroma of Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale was clear: it smelt like Christmas. Those smells that float through the kitchen during cooking came through in this beer. The orange peel, nutmeg, and coriander were by far the strongest.

Drinking Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale is not easy due to so much going on in it. There is a caramel undertone to the body with the spices working well together to create a well-balanced taste. The bitter aftertaste that follows, whilst not strong, contrasts with the sweetness of the spices and citrus flavour.

If you like your beers bold and brash, then Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale is for you, else there really is too much going on in it.
