Our Brewing Lupulin Rex : Background
Our Brewing Lupulin Rex is an 8.5% double IPA from Our Brewing based in Fukui, in Fukui prefecture. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup. It’s part of their dinosaur lineup of beers, along with Our Brewing Dino Kid. This beer is brewed with a combination of hops in the form of Cryo Citra, Cryo Idaho 7, Cryo Krush, Dynaboost Sabro and Motueka. As with all beers from Our Brewing, it’s also brewed with locally sourced barley. Finally, it’s unknown if this is a one-off beer, or will be out again.

Our Brewing Lupulin Rex : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Our Brewing Lupulin Rex poured out a slightly hazy golden orange colour with a finger’s worth of white head on top that faded away to a thin layer on top that remained throughout drinking.
The aroma to Our Brewing Lupulin Rex was mostly tropical with a big pineapple aroma first and foremost, along with some mango and passion fruit that came through after the beer had warmed up somewhat. Along with the tropical notes, a noticeable malt sweetness was present from start to finish, though it supported the hoppy aroma, rather than taking away from it. In spite of it being a double IPA, I couldn’t detect any alcohol heat from the beer at all.
I couldn’t wait any longer to drink this beer – the note taking was taking too long so I took a sip. Well more like a big gulp and Our Brewing Lupulin Rex was as delicious as I hoped it would be. The mango and pineapple flavours were noticeable from the start and the softness of the bitterness was soothing. There was a touch of malt sweetness in the body of the beer that supported it all, but by halfway, I was feeling the booziness of the beer. At 8.5%, and with it being so easy drinking, it didn’t last long and I went in for another can.
