2nd Story Ale Works Dance : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
2nd Story Ale Works Dance poured out a relatively clear golden straw colour with a thin white head on top that left some bubbles around the side of the glass. There was a steady stream of bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass, with them just keeping a few bubbles around the edge during drinking.
I’ve not had many West Coast Pilsners, so I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with 2nd Story Ale Works Dance. However, I can understand why this beer is called “dance” as the resultant aroma really tingled my olfactory senses. A bouquet white wine aroma, alongside some citrus notes of lemon and lime, combined with some light tropical notes of mango and pineapple came through at first. As the beer warmed up, the German influence became more prominent as a light pilsner malt aroma sweetness was noted towards the end, helping to support the hoppy aromas to the beer.
Though this beer has a pilsner influence, the hoppiness was definitely West Coast as the bitterness was sharp, but not overpowering, at the start of drinking. The hoppy flavours found in the nose were present in the body, with the citrus notes taking more of a lead during drinking. The balance of flavours, between the hops and malt, led slightly towards the hops more at the start of drinking, though as 2nd Story Ale Works Dance warmed up, some more of the malt sweetness came through. With a crisp and light body, I found myself finishing this beer off quicker than I had realised – where’s the second can when you need it?
2nd Story Ale Works Dance : The Bottom Line
2nd Story Ale Works Dance is a West Coast Pilsner that puts the hops firmly in the driving seat. White wine, citrus, and tropical fruit aromas lead into a crisp, sharp bitterness, while a touch of pilsner malt keeps things balanced. Dangerously easy drinking, this is one beer that won’t last long in the fridge.
