Vertere Benitoa

Vertere Benitoa : Background

Vertere Benitoa is a 6% Belgian blonde from Vertere based in Oku-tama, Tokyo. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, with its availability at the time of writing being sporadic to say the least. It’s brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops and uses Belgian yeast. This beer has seen a few variations over the years, but the base recipe has stayed the same, with just the hops being changed around.

Vertere Benitoa : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste

Vertere Benitoa poured out a light honey straw colour with a thin layer of white head on top that left a few bubbles around the side of the glass. The head had barely any staying power or legs to it, with those last bubbles popping away very quickly in the end.

The beer had a distinct Belgian yeast phenolic nose from the yeast, and a light wheaty nose from the body. Moreover, there was a slight peppery undertone to Vertere Benitoa, with the hops not seemingly bringing much to the beer. As the beer warmed up, the alcohol remained well hidden, with the yeast aromas being the most prominent during drinking.

As in the aroma, the body had a clean, but distinct, yeast flavour with the phenols and spiciness working nicely off one another. Once again, the hops didn’t really bring much to the body, or perhaps they were lost on me completely. Still, the spiciness and wheaty flavour worked well.

Vertere Benitoa : The Bottom Line

A simple and straightforward Belgian blonde. Nice if not exciting.
