Tany’s Base : The Bottom Line
Tany’s Base was my first unlucky part of this trip though I did enjoy the time I was here and would happily come back if I am ever in the area. On the day I went, there was no draft beer or food on – both something that is important for a bar to succeed – though there was a large selection of beers in the fridge that I could drink. So come along, get some beers in-store, and relax as I did. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge as well.

Tany’s Base : Background
Tany’s Base is the taproom not for a brewery, but for Tany’s, a local supplier of drinks to restaurants and bars in the Kagawa area. The company was founded in August 1948 as Taniguchi Inryo LLC, a soft drink manufacturer and alcohol retailer. At the time, they were very popular with local residents for our original drinks, though they gradually transitioned to selling alcohol for commercial use in order to meet the needs of the local community. On June 3rd, 1993, they changed they name to Tany’s LLC and began operating as a wholesaler of alcohol for commercial use.
This taproom, located next to the main office of Tany’s, opened in 2021 with the aim of encouraging people to come to Kanonji and to experience the area. The taproom is about a 25 minute walk from JR Kan-onji station, though there is a bus service that runs every 30 minutes from the station to a stop in the vicinity of the bar.
Tany’s Base : Atmosphere & Interior
It must have been ominous as I walked into Tany’s Base but it was dead – and this was a Saturday afternoon with bright blue skies? Where is everyone and why is it so quiet in here? More importantly, where’s the bar staff? Well it turned out that I had come after the lunch time rush and that’s why it was so quiet.
With seating for 10 people inside the bar, at various bar counter seats and a table at the back, there’s not much space in here, but it did actually seem to be quite an open place. The whole place is non-smoking and there’s no table charge, along with some free WiFi that you can connect to with the details around the bar.

Tany’s Base : Beer & Tap Information
Again, I stuck out with the beer, in spite of there being six taps available for craft beer, nothing was on the day I went and there were no menus out. There were two fridges though with plenty of craft beer in both bottles and cans to be drunk, with no corkage fee at all. All of the beers are cold-stored, so they’re as fresh as can be, though any beers that are approaching the best before date are marked down in price.
Tany’s Base : Food & Menu Information
Again, I struck out with the food as they had sold out of all of their curry! What was I going to do on this trip – starve? It really was a shame as the smell from the curry they sell smelt incredible, so I was left salivating and lamenting the fact that I was going to be left with a long walk ahead of me. The prices on the menus do include tax though you will need someone with you who can read and speak English.
