Gogoshima Iyokan Lager : Background
Gogoshima Iyokan Lager is a 4% lager with fruit from Gogoshima Beer Farm based on Gogoshima, in Ehime, Japan. It’s part of their regular lineup and is available in both cans and on draught. As the name suggests, Gogoshima Iyokan Lager uses thinned Iyokan oranges carefully cultivated by Hanamoto Farm, a citrus farm on Gogoshima, are used immediately after harvest and only the peels are processed and steeped with hops after fermentation. The hops used in this batch of the lager are Chinook, Magnum, and Strata.

Gogoshima Iyokan Lager : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Gogoshima Iyokan Lager poured out a light golden colour with a thick white head on top which left some thick rings around the side of the glass during drinking. The bubbles in the head were medium to large sized, but in the end, it was just the smaller ones that stuck around.
The beer had an initial floral aroma with some light citrus notes, though in comparison, the iyokan aroma was the strongest as the beer warmed up. It was a natural aroma, without any soapy notes, as sometimes the addition of fruit can lead the beer to have a washing-up liquid aroma. There was a touch of light malt sweetness that came through in Gogoshima Iyokan Lager, with it appearing as the beer warmed up.
The flavour in the body began with a slight bitterness though it was brief as the orange-like flavour came though more so than in the aroma. There was a light floral hoppy flavour underpinning it all, along with a touch of malt sweetness just residing next to it. If anything though, the body lacked, well, body as it was just a bit too light for the flavours to really remain for long on the palate.

Some solid flavours in the beer, but too light in the body means that all disappears quicker than expected.
