Atsumi Weka : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Atsumi Weka poured out a dark golden orange colour and resembled an English IPA more than an American IPA – but back in the day, this is the colour of those early days of American IPAs.
It had a strong resinous aroma, with a light note of citrus when the beer was poured into the glass. As it warmed up, the nose become more citrus, moving away from the resinous notes initially found in it. On top of this, Atsumi Weka had a clean malty aroma of some caramel and a touch of light yeastiness towards the end.
The beer did confuse me as I was drinking it – I was expecting some more punchiness in the bitterness department and felt the beer lacked enough of it. The hops did have some light lemon flavour present, but the beer really lacked depth compared to the aroma of the beer. The caramel from the malts softened the overall flavour of the beer, but in the end, it was just limped over the finishing line.
Atsumi Weka : The Bottom Line
The beer started off well in the nose, but limped through in the end.
