Imabari Machinaka IPA : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Please excuse the glass – I was tired and really didn’t do a good job of washing it, did I? I didn’t notice until I had poured the beer into the glass and took this snap. Anyway, what’s done is done. Imabari Machinaka IPA poured out a dark honey colour with a thick, sticky white head on top that left some thick rings around the glass – in spite of it not being washed properly I guess.
The beer had an aroma of a classic American IPA – and that’s a good thing in my book. A smooth, resinous aroma permeated through and lasted during drinking, with some light citrus notes of lemon and orange just seeping through as Imabari Machinaka IPA warmed up some more. For sweetness, there was a gentle under current of it lingering behind the hops though it never threatened to dominate over the hops.
As in the aroma, this beer had your old school punchy bitterness that was prominent from the get go, but didn’t assault your senses, nor punish them. The hops though did blend together to bring a light resinous flavour at the start, before leading through with the citrus notes found in the nose; so more lemon and orange. Overall, the body was quite dry, with just a touch of sweetness present.
Imabari Machinaka IPA : The Bottom Line
A solid old school American IPA from Imabari Machinaka Bakushu.
