Susukino Yell Saison : Background
Susukino Yell Saison is a 6.5% saison from Susukino Brewing, based in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup. Though it’s part of their lineup, Susukino Saison is usually only released in summer so supplies may be running low at the time of writing. Like other beers from Susukino Brewing, it is brewed with hops from Kamifurano, though which ones are unknown at the time of writing.

Susukino Yell Saison : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Susukino Yell Saison poured out a dull golden orange colour with a meagre amount of fluffy white head on top that didn’t really stick around for long. It did leave a thin later of bubbles on top, but nothing down the side of the glass.
The aroma was mixed – a little bit of light herbal notes from the hops, with some subtle phenols from the yeast of peach, and a touch plasticky, with the latter not something you want in a saison really. As Susukino Yell Saison warmed up, some of the peppery spiciness sung through enough to detract from that plasticky aroma.
The body was bold from start to finish, with a medium sweetness residing under it all, and somewhat tying it together. The plasticky aroma that was in the nose was much more subdued in the body, with a light spiciness cutting through all of it. Susukino Saison had some light herbal notes in the body too, but something didn’t really sit right with this beer – yes, those plasticky notes came through more as the beer warmed up.
Susukino Yell Saison : The Bottom Line
Susukino Yell Saison isn’t a great example of saison and I’d pass it over next time.
