Yellow Monkey Apple Cinnamon Brown Ale is a 6% spiced beer, with its base being a brown ale, from Yellow Monkey Brewing, based in Nakagawa, Yokohama. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, with it also being part of their winter seasonal lineup. As the name suggests, it’s a brown ale made with apple juice, cinnamon, and brown sugar, fermented in an open fermentation tank using only wine yeast, and uses imported New Zealand Nelson hops.

Yellow Monkey Apple Cinnamon Brown Ale : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Yellow Monkey Apple Cinnamon Brown Ale poured out a deep, dark reddish brown colour, which upon a thick slightly, off-white head laid on top. The head did leave some streaks down the side of the glass, with some strong lacing and remaining until the end of drinking.
In terms of aroma, the beer had a strong cinnamon sugar aroma at first, with the other aromas lingering underneath. A slight sour note of apple was present, as well as a touch of malt nuttiness pairing up with it. Yellow Monkey Apple Cinnamon Brown Ale reminded me somewhat of a freshly baked apple pie, though lacking the warmth.
The body began with a smooth sugary cinnamon heat, that was pleasant and not overpowering. At 6%, there was just enough booziness to help support the flavours, but I could imagine this being a bit stronger next time around, and having more of a Belgian dubbel base to it. The lingering sugary notes, combined with the malt nuttiness, was a delight on the palate and was equally as nice when the beer had warmed up.
