Mikkeller Kanda : The Bottom Line

Kanda has lots of good places to get some craft beer, and Mikkeller Kanda is another one to add to this list though the prices and sizes of beers may leave some feeling a bit priced out of going. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing with the bars kitsche design and I will be going back again just to try the burgers at some point. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge either.

Mikkeller Kanda Inside

Mikkeller Kanda : Background

Mikkeller bars in Tokyo seemed to be rather nomadic for a while, but since setting up shop in Mikkeller Tokyo in Shibuya a few years ago, the solid footing has helped them to find a new place in Kanda, in what can only be described as a back alley bar with a kitsche design. It’s the second location for the chain, and it follows a similar idea to the first with Mikkeller bringing their own beers over but supporting local breweries. The bar, in spite of its appeal, may only be around for a few years longer though as there has been talk of the building being knocked down, and no doubt replaced with something garish and modern, and housing offices instead.

The bar is nestled in a back alley as mentioned but it’s quite close to the Kanda station network – less than a minute walk from the north exit of JR Kanda station.

Mikkeller Kanda : Atmosphere & Interior

It’s hard to really describe the narrow and low nature of Mikkeller Kanda – it seems that the building has seen better days, and that’s no more evident than when you try to walk up the stairs from the first floor. They are steep and not for people of tall persuasion as you may end up either bashing your head against the low ceiling, or having to stoop over so much that you end up toppling over.

The first floor holds the cooking area for the burgers, though you can order beers from this floor, but the second, if it’s really the second floor as it feels like something between two floors, has the main bar area, and higher up is the third floor. There is space for around 35 people inside acorss the various floors, with regular tables, counter seating, and high tables, while the whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge,

Mikkeller Kanda : Beer & Tap Information

On the day I went to Mikkeller Kanda, there were 12 taps of craft beer on, with both domestic and imported beers on tap. The beers come in two sizes : 230 ml from ¥650 and then 400 ml from ¥1250. The prices include tax but I didn’t notice any happy hour or beer flight set either. Moreover, there’s not chance to get any beers to takeaway. The only thing to be warned about is that the second floor part of the building doesn’t open until 16:00, so if you come early, then the only option is on the first floor and there’s only 1 tap on.

Mikkeller Kanda : Food & Menu Information

Unfortunately, on the day I went to Mikkeller Kanda, all of the burgers had sold out – not a surprise really as I did get there after 8pm and the bar was pretty full up. A shame as the burgers did look, and smell, incredible. I guess that will have to be next time.

The menus are in English – enough for you to order and see what’s coming up on tap and on the food menu. If you’re vegetarian though, you’re in luck as there is a vegetarian burger on the menu – but like the regular burger, this too had sold out. I’m guessing people really didn’t want me to eat here?

I posted here. I know I posted here.
Did you read my post?
I mentioned having taken a bunch of photographs of the Great American Beer Festival for your behalf. I need to convey them to you.
As far as I know, I didn’t reveal any personal data about myself. My e-mail address is valid; you could have inquired to me what was the snag. Did mentioning my World-Wide Web site do me in? OK – I won’t mention it with this post.
