Kyoto 6 Journeys Czech IPA : Background

Kyoto 6 Journeys Czech IPA is a 6% Czech IPA from Kyoto Brewing Company, based in Kyoto. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. As the name suggests, Kyoto 6 Journeys Czech IPA uses imported Czech hops in the form of Saaz and Sladek; the latter being a new one for us at BeerTengoku.

Kyoto 6 Journeys Czech IPA : Appearance

Poured out a slight hazy golden straw colour – was the haze from the beer being chilled or was it deliberate from Kyoto Brewing Company? Head was a thin white layer though that faded fast to leave just a few bubbles around the edge of the glass.

Kyoto 6 Journeys Czech IPA : Aroma

Berry and floral aroma from the get-go – interesting note of hop aromas and not your usual IPA aroma. A light citrus aroma permeated through as the beer warmed up – balanced nicely but very mixed nose.

Kyoto 6 Journeys Czech IPA : Taste

Peculiar – starts off with a light to medium bitterness that opens up to some citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit. Berry like aroma – raspberry or strawberry, not quite sure – permeates through a light sweetness of pilsner like body. Bitterness hangs around until the end of drinking.

Kyoto 6 Journeys Czech IPA : The Bottom Line

Mixed feelings about this one – I liked it, but its unusual in both aroma and taste.
