Heisei Karechi : Aroma & Taste

Heisei Karechi poured out a clear golden honey colour with a small amount of white head that faded to a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. The immediate aroma of a phenolic fruitiness was compounded with a light dusting of sweet malts. It seemed pretty straightforward for a saison, though as Heisei Karechi warmed up, there was a subtle, if not potent, peppery aroma going on.

Heisei Karechi drank like a saison too with its dry and light body being punctuated by the phenol fruitiness and peppery notes balancing off each other nicely. As the beer warmed up, there was a light sweetness to the aftertaste though the yeast was the star of this show. As for hoppiness – I didn’t get anything from this beer – heck, who knows if any actually went into the making of it.

Heisei Karechi : The Bottom Line

Heisei Karechi is a decent saison that won’t win awards but does do what it’s aiming to do.
