Octone Kayaba Saison is a 5.5% saison from Octone Brewing, based in Minakami, Gunma in Japan. It’s part of their regular lineup and can be found in both bottles and on tap. Octone Kayaba Saison is brewed using Belgian yeast and uses Magnum, Kent, Hallertau, and Willamette hops during the brew.
Octone Kayaba Saison Aroma and Taste
Octone Kayaba Saison poured out a dark golden amber colour with a thin amount of white head on top that faded fast to a few bubbles around the side of the glass. It had a deep funky phenolic aroma from the Belgian yeast – nothing off mind, but enough to get your nose pricked up. The hops were not overly powerful, with a light earthy note to them and a slight pepperiness coming through once Octone Kayaba Saison had warmed up to room temperature.
Drinking Octone Kayaba Saison when it’s chilled is highly recommended if you’re not a fan of big, phenolic flavours in your beer. While they are on the strong side for a saison, they are on-style for what a saison is I think. Besides that, it’s a very easy drinking beer that was well suited to the hot summer day it was drunk on. The hops brought a faint, but lingering, earthy and floral note to the beer, with the phenols just lingering on into the aftertaste. However, when Octone Kayaba Saison had warmed up to room temperature, it was much bolder with a fuller body of flavour from the yeast.
Octone Kayaba Saison The Bottom Line
When chilled, Octone Kayaba Saison is a decent saison.
