West Coast TDHSSR is a 9% hazy double IPA from West Coast Brewing Company, based in Munemachi, in Shizuoka, Japan. Itā€™s part of their canned lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. West Coast TDHSSR is an abbreviation for its full name that is West Coast Triple Dry Hopped Super Sun Riseā€¦ and with a mouthful of a name like that, itā€™s not surprising they abbreviated it. The beer is brewed using Bruce, El Dorado, Wakatu, Enigma, and Vic Secret hops.

West Coast TDHSSR Aroma and Taste

West Coast TDHSSR poured out a hazy orange colour with a large amount of sticky, white head on top that clung to the side of the glass. West Coast TDHSSR packed a punch in the aroma department with a truckload of tropical aromas coming through ā€“ pineapple, orange, mango, lemon, grapefruit. There was so much going on that it smelt like someone had poured some tropical fruit juice into my glass. The malts were present with a mild sweetness that was noticeable but couldnā€™t really cut through the fruitiness of the beer. In terms of alcohol punch, it was not noticeable, and thankfully, West Coast TDHSSR didnā€™t come with a minerally aroma ā€“ something that can be found in these kinds of beers as the addition of some minerals can help the hops pop in terms of aroma.

The initial mouthful of West Coast TDHSSR was smooth and rounded, with the tropical fruits bringing a thick layer of flavour to proceedings. Pineapple, mango, orange, lemon, grapefruit all played together nicely and stayed throughout drinking as the thick body helped support them through. West Coast TDHSSR isnā€™t a gulping IPA, itā€™s one to savour and sip on as it isnā€™t thirst quenching ā€“ but that is a good thing. Nor is it overly sweet either as the malts brought a decent balance to play off against the hops. The bitterness, while present, was restrained with just an undertone of it during drinking. The hop flavours stayed on throughout drinking into the aftertaste, leaving a sticky, juicy flavour.
