Aoi Beer Stand The Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a place to pop in for a quick beer throughout the day and don’t mind a limited choice on tap, then Aoi Beer Stand is right for you. It’s highly unlikely you’ll stay here past one or two drinks, mainly because of the lack of food and space really; however, it’s a fun little place to drop into, if you can get in that is. Thought there are a limited number of seats, Aoi Beer Stand does not have any table charges, all prices include tax, and there is also some free WiFi available for use too. Just make sure you eat something before you go as there is just a few snacks on. There is also a limited amount of English available too.
Aoi Beer Stand The Full Review
Aoi Beer Stand is perhaps one of the oldest craft beer bars in Shizuoka, having opened up in 2013 and was actually the first place in Shizuoka where Aoi Brewing began selling their beer. In that time, the number of bars that Aoi Brewing operate has increased but their customers haven’t forgotten about this branch.
Aoi Beer Stand is located between JR Shizuoka station and Shin-Shizuoka station in the Den Bill building on the main road side. It’s easy to spot too with its facade being of a different colour to the actual building. The actual inside of Aoi Beer Stand is tiny – there’s space for about 6 people to sit down, and barely any room to stand up behind those 6 stools. There’s no table charges mainly because the whole purpose of Aoi Beer Stand is to come in for a quick beer or two and then leave. During the warmer months, the doors do open up to allow the customers to spill out onto the street, but I can imagine that after a few too many beers, it could be a bad idea and people will start to fall out of the bar – perhaps. The whole place is non-smoking and there is also some free WiFi too.
While the bar is adorned with labels of craft beer from across Japan, along with a few labels from overseas, the 6 taps of beer are dedicated to Aoi Brewing, split between regular beers and seasonal with some limited editions too. The beers come in three different sizes: glass (240ml) from ¥680, pint (473ml) from ¥1,000 and maas (1L) from ¥1,900. All the prices include tax but there is no happy hour nor any beer flights either. There are also some takeaway beers to go, with either the glass option in a plastic cup, or some bottles from the fridge.
In terms of food, Aoi Beer Stand doesn’t really have much on offer and as I was meeting a friend later, I didn’t really stay long enough. However, the menu mostly had some small snacks and side dishes on it, with just a couple of slightly larger bar meals in terms of pizza and some fried things. There are a few vegetarian options on the menu just in case but the Den Bill has lots to offer for lunch and dinner so come here instead for the beers.
