TY Harbor Arakawa Sunny Day DIPA is an 8% double IPA from TY Harbor Brewery, based in Shingawa, Tokyo in Japan. It’s part of the limited edition lineup for BeerMa’s second anniversary of the Kita-Senju bar and can be found in bottles and on tap. The second anniversary beer is double IPA because the store manager likes them – simple enough I guess?
TY Harbor Arakawa Sunny Day DIPA Aroma and Taste
TY Harbor Arakawa Sunny Day DIPA poured out a hazy dark orange brown colour with a very plump white head on top. For a DIPA, I was expecting more of a piney, resinous nose but it came up wanting. The citrus notes were present with lemon and some oranges coming through. The malts brought a light caramel aroma but were a bit subdued – surprising for a DIPA really. (I’m really trying my hardest not to say WIPPER as to annoy Joe)
The body tasted, well, lacklustre. No bold hop bitterness, nor flavour, nor malts coming through. It’s almost as if someone had stripped out the flavour profile before bottling. Only when TY Harbor Arakawa Sunny Day DIPA had warmed up did some of the flavours come through but they were more of a light soapy flavour and a strange light licquorice flavour too. The aftertaste was dry with some piney notes to it but overall, not that memorable.
TY Harbor Arakawa Sunny Day DIPA The Bottom Line
For a double IPA, TY Harbor Arakawa Sunny Day DIPA left me wanting for an actual DIPA. It just seems like someone forgot to put the hops in.
