Doppo Sparkling Rose Sakura Ryojou Aroma and Taste
Doppo Sparkling Rose Sakura Ryojou poured out like lurid pink Hokkaido beer that I refuse to mention. It had a clean white head on top that was fluffy and lingered before collapsing on itself. The aroma was of cherries, I’ll give Miyashita Shuzo that, but it was more of an artificial chemical-like aroma to it rather than a natural aroma. There was a slight yeasty funk to it but not much else came through during drinking.
The body had a sweet cherry twang to it that was kind of kriek – a style of Belgian beer with cherries – but kriek-lite. There was a faint fresh pilsner bite to it, almost as if Miyashita Shuzo had taken their Doppo Pilsner and added some cherry juice to it. Surely they wouldn’t do that, would they?
Doppo Sparkling Rose Sakura Ryojou The Bottom Line
Doppo Sparkling Rose Sakura Ryojou isn’t a terrible fruit beer but the lingering chemically flavours just meant it felt like the cherry flavour was more of an afterthought rather than being built around.
