Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch is a 5% kölsch style beer from Tago Brewery Company. The bottle below is the regular version of Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch as it comes in two different bottles, with the other having an image of Venus on the front. The PR department must be praised for not having Uranus on the front cover as we at BeerTengoku would have had a difficult time writing this review.

Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch Aroma and Taste

Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch was an unknown quantity when it turned up in an order from World Beer Market – one of those beers that I felt that should be tried and as such, a click and order was done. It was hard to find much information out about it and as such, my astute sense of taste and smell were called into action again. It poured out a hazy, golden brown colour with very little life to it but it did have a strong fruity, malty aroma to it that was a good surprise.

Kölsch-style beers aren’t that common in Japan but with Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch, they seem to have hit upon a sweet spot of the market. It follows the style tightly; had a subtle hoppy twang to it that was more spicy and than citrus. Along with this, the malts in Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch produced a solid support with a sweetness to it that worked well with the hops. There was a slight bitterness to the aftertaste but nothing offensive or long-lasting.

Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch is a decent kölsch that is worth picking up if you find it.
