Shiga Kogen Imperial Indian Summer Saison is an 8.5% saison from Tamamura Honten that is part of their limited edition line up of beer. It was first brewed to celebrate the 5th Snow Monkey Beer Live Festival held in March 2016 and is a stronger version of its younger sibling, Shiga Kogen Indian Summer Saison. It’s brewed using hops from New Zealand and America and at the time of writing, can be found in both bottles and on tap. It has an IBU of 83.
Shiga Kogen Imperial Indian Summer Saison Aroma and Taste
This review is based on the third review of Shiga Kogen Imperial Indian Summer Saison as the first time at Tamamura Honten I was too tired to make any notes and the second time was at Snow Monkey Beer Live, I don’t honestly remember having it but there are pictures of me drinking it. So third time’s a charm. It poured out a soapy golden orange colour with fairly minimal head that dissipated into a thin ring around the edge of the glass. The saison edge from the Shiga Kogen Indian Summer Saison was present but the booziness came through much stronger and it had a slightly medicinal quality to it, almost like a weizenbock.
Shiga Kogen Imperial Indian Summer Saison had a slight yeast kick to it but the hops brought something different – a cross between an American IPA with a citrus, piney punch, and the light saison refreshing twang with a fruity banana-like quality to it. There was a lot going on in Shiga Kogen Imperial Indian Summer Saison throughout drinking and was one of the most complex beers I’ve had. The bubblegum quality to it was light and left a slightly sticky sensation on the tongue.
Shiga Kogen Imperial Indian Summer Saison One Line Review
I want more of Shiga Kogen Imperial Indian Summer Saison but I feel weird about it – I liked it but also at the same time felt like I should have been expecting more.
