Yorocco Skywalker IPA is a 6% American IPA from Yorocco Beer, based in Zushi, Kanagawa. I was going to make this review full of Star Wars references but I got told, in no uncertain terms by Joe, not to do it. Its name has an obvious link to the movies but rumours are abound that it is actually a reference to Luc Bim Lafontaine, whom Kichise-san, head brewer at Yorocco Beer, learnt how to make the style from. At the time of writing, Yorocco Skywalker IPA is a draft beer only though with Yorocco Beer slowly moving to bottled production, let’s hope that changes soon.
Yorocco Skywalker IPA Aroma and Taste
This wasn’t the first time I had Yorocco Skywalker IPA – with the original time being waay back in 2014 at the great Shower Beach festival held in Zushi – and I’ve been looking for it ever since. It poured out a hazy golden straw-like colour with a fairly light and frothy white head to boot. The aromas coming off Yorocco Skywalker IPA were a mix between a large grapefruit lemony hit along with some faint wheaty notes as well. There was quite a lot going on but none of the flavours really dominated over each other.
Yorocco Skywalker IPA’s body was more sour than bitter with the grapefruit and wheat flavours coming through the strongest. A strange mix in an American IPA; however, it seemed to work well. It had a light dosing of sweetness to it along with a light crisp body to it. The aftertaste was of lemon and grapefruit but the sourness moved into a bitterness in the end.
Yorocco Skywalker IPA One Line Review
I really liked Yorocco Skywalker IPA and could happily have drunk more but but calling it an IPA is generous at best – perhaps more of a weizen IPA saison hybrid.
