Zenryaku Konomi Nante Kiitenaize Sorry Session Yuzu Ale- to give it its full title, and get this article way over the minimum word count before I even talk about what the beer tastes like- is one of Yo-Ho Brewing’s specialty brews. Previous beers under this name have been the mystifying Kurogo Imperial Porter (reviewed here), as well as a sake barrel-aged strong ale and a white IPA. These beers are all brewed as one-off batches, and are snapped up as quickly as they’re canned, so it’s quite possible that this beer will be all but gone by the time you read this. As the name suggests, it’s a 4% session ale made with yuzu peels and rock salt.
Zenryaku Konomi Nante Kiitenaize Sorry Session Yuzu Ale Nose and Flavour
This ale (not writing that title again, and don’t put it in, Rob, it’ll look daft) pours out a bright, pale colour with a strong yuzu nose- think of a fragrant lemon, if that helps- and a whiff of salt. I didn’t actually know there was salt in it at this point and had to double check the can to make sure it hadn’t fallen in the sea or something.
Tasting it brings an upfront salty mouth feel and an intense yuzu flavour. It’s bitter, sour, and with layers of citrus and grapefruit. I’m kind of glad this is only 4%, as I think anything higher would make my tongue fly out of my mouth like a balloon having the air let out.
Zenryaku Konomi Nante Kiitenaize Sorry Session Yuzu Ale One Line Review
I really like this. It’s a great summer beer, or it would be if there were more than five cans in existence. The second and final batch was brewed in mid-June so it should be on sale by the time you read this. If you manage to hunt down a can, good on you. Enjoy the salty citrusy salty flavour. Of salt.

Sorry to say that I did not like this one at all. I love their Yonayona Ale, and the Suiyobi no Neko is great too, as is Tokyo Black. I have also tried the black “sorry” beer, the boku-beer with the frog and Aooni, which are not great but good beets. But then this one, the combination of Yuzu, salt and beer was absolutely not what I would like to drink again. I am trying every beer I see, but this one is unfortunately not one I like. Sorry.
Thanks for your comment! I think my review and your comment together are exactly what Yoho Brewing are looking for. After all, as the name suggests, they didn’t ask us what we liked! Personally I’m a bit of a salt fiend and I love citrus so this was right up my alley.
