Craft Bank Strawberry Hanami Saison : Background

Craft Bank Strawberry Hanami Saison is a 5% fruited saison from Craft Bank Brewing, based in Kyoto, Japan. It’s part of their spring seasonal lineup, and can be found in both cans and on draught. As the name suggests, Craft Bank Strawberry Hanami Saison is brewed using juice from locally grown strawberries alongside Nelson Sauvin and Simcoe chops.

Craft Bank Strawberry Hanami Saison : Appearance

The picture does not do this beer justice – it’s a bright reddish pink colour with a light off-white pinkish head that collapsed on itself during drinking.

Craft Bank Strawberry Hanami Saison : Aroma

Strawberry aroma for sure with some saison funk going on from the yeast. The beet powder didn’t bring any noticeable aromas, so must have been used just for colour, light sweetness from the malts with a light pilsner sweetness as the beer warms up.

Craft Bank Strawberry Hanami Saison : Taste

Dry and fruity with the strawberry juice being one of the main flavours on show, alongside the dry saison body and subtle yeasty funk in the beer. The body was smooth with a touch of yeasty funk going on as the beer warmed up.

Craft Bank Strawberry Hanami Saison : The Bottom Line

I’d happily drink this beer again on a warm spring day – tart and refreshing.
