September Beers of the Month

A delayed September Beers of the Month from BeerTengoku due to work commitments; however, September threw up a busy month for us here. Where to start? Microbreweries and major craft beer beers both came up trumps but there were some stinkers this month that are best left to linger in the doldrums. A couple more second opinions came along this month as well, something we’re looking to increase.

In terms of choosing beers, it was difficult as this month seemed to bring a variety of styles and flavours this month. Less rambling, more listing.

1) Iwate Kura Red Ale by Sekinoichi Shuzo

Iwate Kura Red Ale

Coming towards the end of the month, Iwate Kura Red Ale by Sekinoichi Shuzo was a pleasant surprise as red ales seem to be a forgotten style in Japanese craft beer production. It would be nice to see more of the red ale and amber ale styles in the future.

2) Hitachino XH by Kiuchi Brewery

Hitachino XH

Perhaps an obvious choice for beer of the month; however, Hitachino XH by Kiuchi Brewery should be on every Japanese craft beer fan’s drinking list. It is a great example of how European techniques can be used successfully to make new beers.

3) Coedo Imperial IPA by Coedo

Coedo Imperial IPAOur final beer of the month was a shoe-in from the moment we tried it. Coedo seem to keep their best beers on tap and this is no exception. Tried at Craftheads in Shibuya, this beer was loved by all that tried it.
