Omishima Belgian Ale : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
On the day I went to Omishima Brewery, I was cycling and as such, I was not able to drink in-store. A shame but then the staff mentioned they do have bottles to takeaway I was sold. Of course, I had to wait to drink this beer after arriving in Imabari as it had been shaken up, and warmed up a tad.
Omishima Belgian Ale poured out a dull brownish honey colour with a thin layer of white bubbles on top that faded to a few bubbles around the edge of the glass.
The aroma was a bit bolder in this beer compared to the Omishima Pale Ale that we had just before it. There was a distinct Belgian yeast funk to the beer, with a light peachy phenolic aroma eminating from both the bottle and the glass. It was enveloped in a light citrus aroma of lemon, and a touch of breadiness from the malts. The aroma didn’t develop much more than that during drinking.
The body was also nicer in this beer than the Omishima Pale Ale. There was a touch of bitterness to begin with, but it was the peachy phenolic note throughout the beer that was a nice change. Underpining this all, there was a smidgen of citrus and light floral hoppy notes, against a backdrop of bready notes. There was slight flourish in the end of some light raisin-like flavour as Omishima Belgian Ale warmed up to finish.
Omishima Belgian Ale : The Bottom Line
A solid take on a Belgian ale that could do with a touch of ramping up in terms of aroma and flavour.
