Nomcraft Double IPA : Background
Nomcraft Double IPA is an 8.5% double IPA from Nomcraft Brewing based in Aridagawa, in Wakayama. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availabillity is unknown at the time of writing. Nomcraft Double IPA is brewed using Cascade, Comet, Equinot, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops. The beer came about because Adam, head brewer at Nomcraft Brewing, has made their Nomcraft IPA numerous times, and wanted to make something a bit stronger and a bit punchier than that beer.

Nomcraft Double IPA : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Nomcraft Double IPA poured out a slightly hazy dull orange colour with a thick white head on top that left some thick rings around the side of the glass.
The beer had a subtle dank aroma to begin with, before some notes of mango and pineapple were noted. Though it was more tropical than I had thought it would be, as Nomcraft Double IPA warmed up, some more citrus notes – grapefruit and lemon for those wondering – came through. At 8.5%, I was surprised that there wasn’t much of an alcohol hit on the nose, either when chilled or warmed up. There was a slight malt sweetness in the nose, with a touch of biscuit note becoming more pronounced as the beer warmed up.
As in the aroma, Nomcraft Double IPA led off with a tropical note, with a touch of bitterness tying it altogether. It wasn’t a bold bitterness, so it’s not going to offend anyone’s taste buds. The mango and pineapple flavours, set up against the citrus notes, played off nicely with one another, with an underlying nature of biscuity sweetness just beneath it all. The only problem? It was very easy drinking and I’m sad I only bought one as it was finished all too soon.
