Nomcraft IPA is a 7.5% American IPA from Nomcraft Brewing, based in Aridagawa, in Wakayama, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round range and can be found in both bottles and on tap. Nomcraft IPA is brewed using Cascade, Comet, Magnum, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops.

Nomcraft IPA Aroma and Taste

Nomcraft IPA poured out a slightly hazy golden orange colour with a thin amount of pure white head on top, that faded to a few bubbles and then left streaks around the side of the glass as the beer went down. There was a strange aroma of tropical fruits – pineapple, mango, and guava – with some pine and woody notes coming along as well. It was an interesting mix of aromas that, when warmed up, was joined by some typical citrus ones of lemon and grapefruit. For those wanting some malt sweetness, I’m afraid that there wasn’t any going on in Nomcraft IPA.

The body did have a bitter kick to it, not enough to put you off from drinking, but after having some of the softer IPAs from Nomcraft, it was a big enough of a difference to get me noticing it. Nomcraft IPA is far more of a typical American IPA than I expected, and the tropical flavours contrasted nicely against the light piney notes in the body. It’s a shame that the flavours didn’t really linger though as the body was dry and light but lacked staying power.

Nomcraft IPA The Bottom Line

Nomcraft IPA is a solid example of an American IPA
