Omishima Pale Ale : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
On the day I went to Omishima Brewery, I was cycling and as such, I was not able to drink in-store. A shame but then the staff mentioned they do have bottles to takeaway I was sold. Of course, I had to wait to drink this beer after arriving in Imabari as it had been shaken up, and warmed up a tad.
Omishima Pale Ale poured out a hazy golden colour, with a thick white head on top that left some patches of bubbles around the glass during drinking. There was a slight haze to the beer as well though it didn’t affect the taste in the end.
In terms of aroma, Omishima Pale Ale was rather muted – it didn’t scream American pale ale, nor did it smell like there had been many hops added to the beer either. It had a slightly musty aroma to it, with a touch of citrus eminating off as it warmed up, but not really enough to challenge the American pale ales we’ve had in the past.
Likewise, the body didn’t really scream American pale ale either. From the get-go, there was an overall muted feeling to this beer – everything seemed weak : the bitterness, the flavour, the body, and the sweetness. Almost as if someone had put this beer on a diet. It wasn’t a bad beer, I could still drink it, but it didn’t bring me joy. And by now, you should know that if a beer doesn’t bring you joy, then it’s not worth it.
Omishima Pale Ale : The Bottom Line
Lacking in substance, it needs beefing up some more – both in terms of aroma and flavour.
