Karuizawa Kogen Seasonal 2025 Saison poured out a hazy, vibrant golden orange colour with a thick plump head on top that left some thick rings around the side of the glass.
Yo-Ho Brewing weren’t joking about the peachiness of this beer – the funk from the yeast screamed peaches to a point where it could almost put people off it. It’s pretty extreme to see a craft beer from this company have such bold and distinct aromas. There was a touch of tropical note to the beer as well, with some light mango and pineapple, but that peach phenol from the yeast – whoosh – bold move there!
The phenols came screaming through in the body, and lingered right through into the after taste, and left a sticky, residue on the palate. It was an aggressive beer for sure, and those new to saisons may be put off by the extremity of the phenols. The tropical mango and pineapple notes were only apparent as Karuizawa Kogen Seasonal 2025 Saison warmed up, with just a light dusting of malt sweetness underneath all of it.

A bold and brash saison – took me by the surprise the first time I had it, much better second time around once I knew the beer was designed to be like this.
