Passific Polar Night : Background
Passific Polar Night is a 9% imperial stout from Passific Brewing, based in Chigasaki, Kanagawa. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is supposedly winter only at the time of writing but if that changes, we’ll amend this post. Passific Polar Night is brewed with 10 different kinds of malt though what hops went into the making of it, and any adjuncts, is unknown at the time of writing.

Passific Polar Night : Appearance
Very dark brown colour, verging on black, with a light frothy tan head on top that faded to an oily ring of bubbles on the top. Left some tan streaks down the side of the glass.
Passific Polar Night : Aroma
Chocolate and vanilla, with a thick creamy coffee nose to the body. It’s all malts in this beer, with a touch of light alcohol booze permeating through as it warms up.
Passific Polar Night : Taste
Smooth, well rounded body, with none of the acridness that is associated with dark malts. Chocolate and coffee flavours remain throughout drinking, with a creamy body that soothes, rather than burns, against the palate. Light alcohol heat during drinking that supports, rather than envelopes, the flavours.
Passific Polar Night : The Bottom Line
Passific Polar Night is a well made imperial stout that I will happily buy again every winter.
