West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge : The Bottom Line
In spite of its ridiculous name, West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge is a pretty funky little place to come to have some beers from West Coast Brewing and also pick up some to take home. It’s a little bit of a trek from the station, so it kind of has more of a local feel compared to the other branches we’ve been to, so meet and mingle with some locals while you get some cans in. The whole place is non-smoking and has free wifi as well.
West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge : The Full Review
It’s been about three years since the Shizuoka trip back in 2020, and for some reason, a group of us decided to jump on a local train from Mishima, and then head down to Shizuoka for some beers there. When we were talking on the train, someone mentioned about West Coast Brewing having a shipping container for a bar and we should go there, if it was open. So much searching online for West Coast Brewing Container brought up 0 results, in spite of their social media posts for the place having container in their handles. Anyway, after bringing up the Craft Beer Map of Japan, we found it and off we went to have some beers in a shipping container, perhaps for the second time in 10 years.
West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge opened in July 2020, which was about 6 months after our initial trip to Shizuoka – talk about timing, and is actually built into a container as part of a larger group of places known as Hito / The Yard that encompasses the container and also some restaurants too. The whole complex is about a 15 minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station, and about the same from Shin Shizuoka station too.
West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge : Atmosphere & Interior
As you walk into West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge, you will be immediately greeted by a space that is mostly bar and beer fridges with some seats, though be prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder with other customers. In terms of seating, there are about 10 seats at the counter and out the front of the bar, though we didn’t bother sitting as, to put it bluntly, there weren’t enough seats for the people already present. The atmosphere was chilled, but lively, with everyone talking to one another, people diving in for a beer, or to get some to takeaway, and at one point, a young woman walking in with a Jack Russell who then stood at the bar, dog in hand, as she drank away.
West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge is completely non-smoking, has no table charge, and also has some free wifi, but that could be from the complex itself.
West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge : Beer & Tap Information
There are four taps of beer on at West Coast Brewing #3 Mobile Fridge and it goes without saying that they’re all from West Coast Brewing. The beers come in two sizes: glass (250ml) from 1,000 yen, and pint (500ml) from 1,500 yen, with prices including tax. However, there is a massive selection of cans that you can choose from at the back of the container, and there is no corkage fee, so my advice is unless you’re desperate to have a draught beer, go can-can crazy instead. The cans are priced from 900 yen upwards, and also include tax. There is no happy hour or beer flights though so you could try sharing some beers if they’re particularly strong.
