West Coast Lupulin Trip is an 8% West Coast Double IPA from West Coast Brewing, based in Mochimune, in Shizuoka, Japan. It’s part of their collaborative lineup and can be found in both cans and on tap. West Coast Lupulin Trip : Aroma & Taste

Look – I know the glass isn’t clean. I was such in a rush to get a beer in me after a long exercise session that I thought, sod it, just get this beer into a class and drink it as soon as you can. That one is on me and no doubt I will get some messages from certain people about making sure the glass is clean. The irony is not lost on me one bit either as no doubt this article will get thrown back at me.

I’ve learnt my lesson so please be kind.

West Coast Lupulin Trip poured out a deep golden orange colour with a thin amount of white head on top that faded fast to a few bubbles. If the name of the beer has lupulin in it, you better come swinging as after Y Market Lupulin Nectar hit the market, that has kind of been the gold standard for those beers.

West Coast Lupulin Trip did not disappoint. It came hit swinging punched of grassy and dank notes followed up with a strong citrus aroma of orange and grapefruit. The aromas were strong when West Coast Lupulin Trip was fresh out of the fridge and grew stronger as the beer warmed up. As it did, there was also a slight note of caramel to the body, but it was all about the hops.

With this being a West Coast Double IPA, the bitterness was bold and profound, but it wasn’t abrasive and nor did it assault the taste buds. The bitterness was smooth before segueing into the dank and citrus notes that were the same as the nose. The alcohol remained restrained throughout drinking, leaving just a slight sticky, citrus flavour on the palate.

West Coast Lupulin Trip : The Bottom Line

West Coast Lupulin Trip is a very nice beer and one that I should have bought more of. The downside is that I know it will probably not be made again.
