2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon is a 4.5% Berliner Weisse from 2nd Story Ale Works, based in Tokushima, in Shikoku, Japan. It’s part of their bottled and draught lineup, though its availability at the time of writing is unknown. As the name suggests, 2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon is brewed using locally sourced lemons, with Tokushima being a famous area for lemons. The beer is named after a family member’s uncle “Yochan, an energetic guy who was always trying new and interesting things.”
2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon Aroma and Taste
2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon poured out a very light straw colour with barely any head on top. What there was just seemed to congregate around the side of the glass, and had the appearance of some light white bubbles on top. Not much of a surprise but 2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon had a distinct lemony aroma with just a hint of sourness coming along for the ride. Don’t worry, that sourness is typical of Berliner Weisse style beers and is something to be enjoyed, rather than thought of as an off flavour. Though it was present, 2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon is all about the lemons, with them being more of a natural aroma rather than a soapy or chemically one.
The lemon theme continued in the body, with a tartness to it that once again taste natural, and not chemically – something that can occur with the usage of lemons. 2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon would have been perfect for a hot summer’s day, instead, it wasn’t meant to be. The flavours didn’t really develop much further than a lemon and sour flavour; however, the body was dry and crisp.
2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon The Bottom Line
2nd Story Ale Yochan Lemon is a simple beer but drinkable and good.
