Emblem Social Bar Kanazawa The Bottom Line
Emblem Social Bar Kanazawa isn’t a place you’re going to search out for beer – but come for one and the chicken will keep you seated, along with a warm and friendly atmosphere (c’mon – which place in Kanazawa isn’t friendly.) They are so friendly that they even started cooking again at 9:30pm when everyone had seemed to have gone home for the night – the story of our trip in Kanazawa. The whole place is non-smoking, has no table charge, offers up free WiFi, and also has plenty of English options too, but what would you expect from a bar in a popular tourist hotel in Kanazawa?
Emblem Social Bar Kanazawa The Full Review
The last bar on our whistle stop tour of Kanazawa doubles up as both a reception area to Emblem – a popular tourist hotel in between Omicho Market and Higashiyama – and a social area where events are held throughout the year. Emblem Social Bar Kanazawa opened in December 2017 and has proven to be a place for both locals and tourists to meet up and chat over a few beers. So much so that there are “international events” held every Friday that encourage the practice. It’s a bit of a walk though from Kanazawa station, however, there are buses and taxis that can take you to the hotel.
Emblem Social Bar Kanazawa is very much an open space with seating for 30 people dotted around various sofas and tables in the bar, along with a few seats dotted along the counter. The whole place is non-smoking – well there is a smoking booth but it’s located nowhere near the bar. There is also no table charge anywhere in the bar and there is also free WiFi for those looking to catch up with some beer reviews. With a mix of travellers and workers from all over the world – there were people from America, Canada, France, and also Brazil – it’s warm and multicultural atmosphere was a big change to some of the places we’ve been to in Tokyo.
However, Emblem Social Bar Kanazawa does have a downside and that’s the beer on tap. With anywhere between one and three taps on, it really is a crapshoot with what you’re going to get. When we went, there was one tap of Oriental Brewing beer on at 350ml for ¥700 – the same price as at the bars. There was no happy hour nor any beer flights on offer. A shame really as there really isn’t much else in the area to get some craft beer, so Emblem is missing out on promoting some good local products. The prices do include tax though!
But the food – just come along for the fried chicken and ignore everything else! You get some decent sized pieces of chicken that come along in a variety of flavours. There are some larger options available and also some vegetarian choices too. Emblem Social Bar Kanazawa also has all of its menus in English.
