Beer Volta first came to our attention on Twitter (@beer_volta) when they popped up with some beers from Anglo-Japanese Brewing Company and Shiga Kogen, the former known for being quite hard to find in bottles, considering the size and age of the brewery. Emails were traded, beers were ordered, and then received.
Beer Volta is both a bricks-and-mortar store, based in Tochigi’s Melody Land, and also an online shop. While that may not sound impressive, what is impressive is that the bottles they have on their site are taken from their shelves, ensuring that if you can’t get to the store, their online portal will have what you want listed. They have an extensive list of beers from both Japan and also imports too, with domestic breweries including Tamamura Honten and Anglo-Japanese Brewing Company being two of what we have seen.
Shipping costs are standard prices for online beer stores with the amount of beer ordered. If your order is up to ¥21600 then prices are:
- Hokkaido costs ¥798
- Kanto / Tohoku / Shin’etsu / Hokuriku / Chubu costs ¥598,
- Kansai area costs a little more at ¥618,
- Chugoku / Shikoku costs ¥698
- Okinawa goes up to ¥1489
- Chilled deliveries cost an extra ¥458
Howeber, if you order is over ¥21601, then shipping is free but chilled deliveries cost an extra ¥699, besides Okinawa which is ¥2188.
For those without a credit card, then you can also use cash on delivery, or COD, for an extra ¥298.
