Kyoto Brewing Company Taproom The Bottom Line

Ok, while this is the taproom for Kyoto Brewing Company, and you can get their beers at other places, this place HAS to be on your list of places to go and drink at while you’re in Kyoto. It’s the cheapest place to get some of Kyoto’s best craft beer on tap at some of the cheapest prices – and Kyoto is not cheap! The only downside to Kyoto Brewing Company is the randomness of food trucks though there are announcement on the Facebook page, so check there if you’re worried about what food is on. There is no table charge, prices include tax, has free WiFi, is family friendly – heck – there are also bilingual staff. Put it bluntly, there is NO excuse not to go here. At all. Well, if you don’t live in Kansai then there is that excuse.

Kyoto Brewing Company Taproom The Full Review

Kyoto Brewing Company Inside 1Kyoto Brewing Company Inside 2

For the #btinkyoto (yes, I really tried to make that a hashtag) trip, Kyoto Brewing Company was the main aim – get there, interview, and drink beer. What started out as brewery, ended up with a small taproom that spilled out into the small loading area, and then grew to being a much larger space on the second floor in March 2018. The second floor overlooks the brewery space, though at the time of writing there is no brewing at the weekends. Those looking to observe some brewing may be left disappointed but shouldn’t be. Not with the high quality of beer on tap.

Kyoto Brewing Company is located about ten minutes walk from Jujo station – if you walk quickly. It’s fairly obvious to see as well, with the huge Kyoto Brewing Company logo adorning the garage doors – and the inevitable gaggle of people out front. During the warmer, sunnier months, there are some tables and seats outside in the loading area; however, for the rest of the time, it’s all inside. The downstairs part of the taproom is all standing, with space for about 15 people, while upstairs is all-seated, with space for about 30 people around tables. The whole place is non-smoking and there is no table charge either.

Unsurprisingly, all the beers on tap are from Kyoto Brewing Company only. There are usually 8 taps of beer on that come in two sizes – 300ml for the higher ABV and 400ml for the regular ABV beers. All beers are ¥600, which also includes tax, making Kyoto Brewing Company one of, if not the, cheapest places to drink in Kyoto. Moreover, you can also buy some bottles to take away, with two or three variations available at different times. There are no beer flights on offer, but there are plans in the future to offer growlers as well. Seriously, why are you still reading this review? Get on the train and get down to Kyoto Brewing Company.

Foodwise, it’s all down to the food trucks. That’s it. They vary from week to week, with pizzas or mexican or other kinds of food available. Their Facebook page is kept up-to-date with the latest comings and goings so make sure you check there.
