Good Beer Faucets The Bottom Line

Good Beer Faucets is leading the way forward in terms of affordable craft beer in Tokyo and other bars could certainly learn a lot from it. The cracking happy hour deal makes drinking some craft beer in one of the busiest parts of Tokyo cheaper than expected and for that alone, Good Beer Faucets is worth a visit. With prices that include tax, no table charge, English menus (along with English speaking staff) , it makes Good Beer Faucets an essential stop in Shibuya. They also have free wifi.

Good Beer Faucets The Full Review

One of Tokyo’s well known craft beer bars, Good Beer Faucets is located in Shibuya, about a ten minute walk from Shibuya station Hachiko exit. Well, it is ten minutes unless you’re like me, you keep getting lost every time you go there, but that says more about my lack of map reading skills than of the place. Open since October 2011, Good Beer Faucets serves up over 40 different kinds of craft beer, mainly from Japan and the US and have also started to release their own beers under the Nide brand, which are brewed by Baird Beer, located in Shizuoka, and Brimmer Brewing, located in Kawasaki.

Good Beer Faucets is open plan and fairly spacious, but at the weekends it can get pretty busy, so make sure you have made reservations. There is also a smoking area as well but inside is smoke free. A blessing for both smokers and non-smokers in the current trend of reducing the first. We got there on a Friday at 5:30 and whilst it wasn’t busy, as soon as offices in the area closed for the weekend, Good Beer Faucets became packed. The bar does not have a table charge but be warned about reserving tables. They also have free WiFi so you can read about Good Beer Faucets on BeerTengoku as you sit and drink in Good Beer Faucets.

Good Beer Faucet’s changes its beer menu daily with both their Facebook and Twitter feeds listing the latest changes. Prices range, for a US pint, from ¥900 for the Nide brand beers, to ¥1300 for the imported US beers on average. ¥600 to ¥750 for half servings, which are about 250ml. Pitchers are also available as well, for 1500ml jugs and vary in price from ¥2000 to ¥3000. Bottle beers are also available, including some Belgian beers and fruit beers. During happy hour from 5pm to 8pm, Sunday to Thursday, all pints are ¥200 off, with the beers becoming even better value. However, there is no happy hour at all on Friday or Saturday, so be warned.

Food wise, the selection is good, but pricey for what you get.  ¥600 for some shoestring fries won’t last a group very long; however, the honey mustard chicken was delicious. Crispy fried with a honey mustard dip on the side. We went a little OTT on it but it was good. The falafel was also very tasty, slightly spicy but a tad expensive,  ¥500 for five balls of it.

The last time I visited here, it was only for happy hour. Then I walked over to The Aldgate, which has less pricey food (There is an EnglishOK World-Wide Web page with a coupon for money off a foodstuff when you have a beer.)

To follow on what I scribed above, I tried to get here back in September 2017.
Somehow, I got all messed up strolling through west Shibuya, even happening upon the Shibuya Mikkeller tap (but I didn’t want to go there!). After 30 minutes of being unable to get where I wanted to go; I pulled all the way back to the main avenue and settled for The Aldgate, which, you should admit, was an acceptable substitute.
{I still can’t deduce where I took the wrong turn and missed here.}
