Atsumi Totoko : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Atsumi Totoko poured out a light golden honey colour and was adorned with a thick white head on top that left some rings around the edge of the glass during drinking. Those rings had some legs to them as well, connecting up with one another as I drank more and more of the beer.
The beer had a classic West Coast IPA aroma from the beginning, with a strong dank resinous note from the beginning, and was paired off with a clean, citrus nose of lemons. As Atsumi Totoko warmed up, there was a touch of light sweetness from the malts in the background; however, it wasn’t enough to detract from the pleasant hoppy aroma.
West Coast IPAs are one of my personal favourite styles of beers, and with this beer, the body was exactly how I like it – a good, strong, but clean bitterness throughout. Alongside this bitterness, the dank resinous notes returned with a dry, citrus bite behind it all. As the beer warmed up, there was a touch of malt sweetness supporting the flavours, though it did remain a secondary flavour behind the hoppiness that was going on in the beer.
Atsumi Totoko : The Bottom Line
From start to finish, this is a solid West Coast IPA.
