Background
Handa Ginzan Brewery is a brewery located in Koori, Fukushima, though it also operates under the brand name of Solder Craft for their beers. The brewery opened in 2020 The brand Solder Craft combines the elements of “Handa Silver Mine” in Koori Town and “Solder (soldering)”. Just as “soldering” is a technique for connecting things, they aim to connect people through craft beer. While making use of the local nature and history, thier beer using local ingredients connects the region and people while creating new value.
Shoji-san, the head brewer at the time of writing, is from the Koori area. The brewery was set up in the area due to several societal factors : declining birthrate, an aging population and population outflow has caused the town to lose its former vitality. He hopes that the brewery, and taproom, will create an opportunity for more people to visit the town, increase the number of visitors, and help bring vitality back to the town, even if only little by little.
