Baeren N Classic : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Um Baeren, what’s happened with this beer? According to the PR images, Baeren N Classic was much lighter in colour, with it being an almost golden colour. This though was a dark caramel brown. It looked nothing like a Dortmunder style beer. It had been stored fresh in the fridges and with it being a can, it should have avoided being lightstruck – something that causes the hops to oxidise and change colour and flavour.
Yet the aroma of the beer didn’t smell off, nor did it have anything offensive or untowards. There was a clean biscuity malt aroma eminating from the glass, with a touch of herbal hop aroma – seemingly to style – yet it’s that colour that just seems a bit weird.
While I was drinking Baeren N Classic, I was also looking online for pictures of this beer from other drinkers, and there was a mixture of apperances – it really does seem with this being an unfiltered beer, what you are going to get out of the can is a crapshoot. But on the otherhand, it did taste to style, with that biscuity malt body being present from start to finish, and a light herbal bitterness just hanging on by its fingernails throughout drinking. As it warmed up, some of the alcohol heat was noted, but it was fleeting.
Baeren N Classic : The Bottom Line
A drinkable beer but something really needs to be done with the colour of it.
