Great Dane Russian Imperial Stout 016 : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Great Dane Russian Imperial Stout 016 poured out a pitch black colour with a thin layer of off-white tan coloured head though that dissipated quickly and left some bubbles on top of the beer. And that’s probably the most outstanding thing about this beer.
Everything else just seemed lacklustre. Not in off-flavour or bad way but everything just seemed so muted / toned down from what I was expecting. Here’s an American brewery, opening up a brewery in Japan, and I was expecting big, bold, brash flavours but all I got was a limp handed effort.
The coffee and chocolate aromas were faded and really seemed like an afterthought to the beer. The body was thin in comparison and lacked anything of staying power. Heck, at 9%, I was expecting something boozy but all I got was a whimper.
Great Dane Russian Imperial Stout 016 : The Bottom Line
A whimper rather than a wow. Not a bad beer, but not a good effort for the style.
