Shimodaira : Background

Shimodaira, or as they style themselves “Simodaira” is a craft beer shop that I came across during a search for beers from Repubrew a while back. The shop is based out of Aizu-Wakamatsu, a town in Fukushima, and they pride themselves in having over 4,000 products – with some of those being craft beer.

The store is also a third generation sake maker, so you can expect to see plenty of their own sake in store. However, the craft beer comes from across Japan though Fukushima is the main focus. You can expect to find craft beer from Yellow Beer Works, Minami Aizu Brewing, and Hop Japan. Additionally, West Coast Brewing, Vertere Beer, and Be Easy Brewing are here.

On top of this, Shimodaira also holds events and festivals almost every month for our customers. Of course, these events are based around drinking. However, the shop does have non-alcohol goods available, for example, coffees and ice-creams.

While it’s not obvious from above, Shimodaira also has a selection of imported craft beer. These beers are mostly from the USA; however, you can find some from the UK and other countries. Prices seem to be around normal, which is good considering how far the beers have come.
