Novoru Citrus Microcarpa : Background
Novoru Citrus Microcarpa is a 5.5% West Coast pale ale from Novoru Brewing, based in Miyazaki, in Kyushu. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. It’s also a collaborative beer, having been brewed in conjunction with Nude Brewery from Kyoto. Finally, the design includes a motif for this bouquet series in the form of the Shikikitsu citrus fruit, which can be found on Tachibana Street, Miyazaki’s main street.

Novoru Citrus Microcarpa : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Hazy golden colour with a plump head of large white bubbles that left some streaks down the side of the glass.
Began with a mixture of slight resinous notes and orange aroma and a touch of citrus lemon in the background. Furthermore, it’s a clean beer with no discernible off aromas or alcohol heat. A touch of malt sweetness rises with a light pilsner note.
It starts off with a swift punch of bitterness on the palate, before moving onto a pine, resinous note. The citrus aromas are present in the body with some lemon and orange joining in the fun. It’s a smooth beer after the initial bitterness and both the hop bitterness and flavours balance well against a slight sweet pilsner backbone.
Novoru Citrus Microcarpa : The Bottom Line
I really liked Novoru Citrus Microcarpa and am looking forward to having more of this beer – as long as I can find it.
